In a distressing incident, the lifeless body of an elderly man was discovered on Saturday in a garbage heap in the Officers Colony area of Burdwan district. The deceased, aged over 60, was found surrounded by marking cloth, incense, khoya used for funeral rites, and a packet of Mudhi on a blanket near the body.
Local residents speculate that the family might have been unable to afford cremation expenses, leading them to dispose of the body in the garbage heap.Municipal employees, during their routine garbage collection on Saturday morning, were the first to notice the disturbing scene. The discovery prompted them to alert local authorities, and subsequently, the Burdwan police station was informed.
Upon arrival, the police took custody of the body and arranged for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. As of now, the identity of the deceased remains unknown, intensifying the mystery surrounding the circumstances of this grim incident.
